Do you know where Ljubljana is?

So, the bus took me to Ljubljana, Slovenia from Bratislava in 6hrs (cost of 9€) and i had no idea what to expect.

But i was absolute blown away of the views and the landscape we were driving trough. 6 hour of pure exaltation. I thought at this point that my stay in Ljubljana should probably be very good.

unbelievable history, incredible views and so much to do.

Lets start with some history.

1895. Maaajor earthquake. Most of the city was destroyed, but you know the saying – you cant make an omelette without breaking an egg. The city got a full makeover giving Ljubljana the urban appearance it still has today.

1945. Slovenia became part of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (SFRY), along with Croatia, Montenegro, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Macedonia. Reconstruction after the war resulted in Ljubljana growing via the simple combination of socialist neighbourhoods and “discrete” modernist high-rises alongside baroque buildings in the centre.

1977. Pankrti (Bastards), one of the first punk bands in a communist country, took the stage, heralding the arrival of one of the most vibrant music scenes at the time. Of course, the government wasn’t too pleased with such rebellious ideas, often turning to oppression to subdue them.

1991. After the disintegration of SFRY, the war for independence lasted no longer than ten days, though lives were still lost. A new era began for Slovenia and Ljubljana, which finally became the capital of an independent country.

2004. Slovenia joined the EU and Ljubljana disappeared from the list of cheap locations on Balkan trips. No one can really agree whether Slovenia belongs to Western, Eastern, Central or Southern Europe – we just now they like the new things at old prices.

2017. Convinced by the sheer number of mentions of Jože Plečnik in the USE-IT Ljubljana maps (and maybe the fact that it’s the 60th anniversary of his death), the city of Ljubljana decides to go with the flow and decides 2017 victorious USE-IT team starts working on its new agenda – getting 2018 to be declared by the year of coypu.

Here’s 4 reason why you should go to Ljubljana, Slovenia!

  1. Beer o’clock: Ljubljana has experienced a beer boom in recent years, so make sure not to miss the quality beers from local craft breweries. I recommend: Pelicon, Bevog, Human fish, Reservoir dogs, Mali grad or Maister. If you’re more of a traditionalist, the most two most popular beers are Laško and Union, which have been around since the 19th century.
  2. Ljubljana castle: Ljubljana Castle (Ljubljanski grad) is an the capital landmark and a place to discover centuries of Slovenian history. At the top of the wooded Castle Hill, the castle rises above Ljubljana’s medieval Old Town.
  3. Lake Bled: Is an Serbo-Croatian glacial lake in the northwestern Slovenia. Just an hour outside Ljubljana, the buses is going there every hour from morning to afternoon and back to Ljubljana every half an hour. This is an absolute must! You can check my other blog post for pictures and inspiration about Lake bled here:
  4. Postojna cave: Postojna Cave is the largest Karst cave in Slovenia with a total of 24 km of underground tunnels. Absolute mind blowing!

Here’s some Slovenian words that can become useful for you if you travel there!

  • Hello = živijo
  • Goodbye = Adijo
  • How are you? = Kako si?
  • Thank you = Hvala
  • Please/You’re welcome = Prosism
  • Bon appetit = Dober tek

Have you ever been to Bratislava, Slovakia?

As usual i traveled by bus. From Budapest to Bratislava took 2hrs35min and costed 7€. Like i said before, If you have the time to travel by bus then you should definitely do it. You will save money and you will see so much more on the way!

Another country, Another experience!

Bratislava is the capital of Slovak republic, also called by some “The beauty on the Danube”. Danube is the second longest river in Europe, flowing 1,785 miles from Germany to Ukraine into the Black Sea.

Here’s a list of what i did in Bratislava and why i think you should travel to Bratislava, Slovakia!

  • Danube river: One of the worlds great rivers. From Bratislava it goes day-cruises to Vienna and around to different places in Slovakia. For an example: Devin castle that i personally think is a must do! Several floating restaurants have been in operation for years here as well that you can experience the beautiful nature while enjoying a meal and maybe a glass of wine. Sounds good?
  •  Bratislava castle: An absolute must do according to me. Bratislava Castle is the landmark overlooking the capital. It was built in 9th century and It stands on the hill above Danube river. You will probably be walking trough the beautiful St. Martin’s Dome and the narrow streets of the Old town. You can also drive there if it’s not possible to walk.
  • Blue church: Just like from a fairy-tale. Bratislavas Blue church has the exact same color as the sky when you’re looking at it on a sunny day. The church was built in the early 20th century and the official name is ” Saint Elizabeth’s church ” but obvious everybody call it the Blue church.
  • Old town: If you love restaurants with outdoor seating as much as i do, you will be in heaven. When you’re walking this narrow streets in Old town with its beautiful architecture, It can be nice to sit down and have something to drink, an ice cream or even a meal. You can walk around in Old town of Bratislava for hours if you want! A must do!

Now I’m off to Ljubljana and Slovenia! Hope i see you there!

Here’s a video of my stay here in Bratislava and some footage of Slovenia! Enjoy.

Why you should travel to Budapest!

I Arrived in Budapest after an 7 hour bus ride. I really do enjoy this bus rides because the small citys you drive trough and the views of the landscapes that Europe has to offer.

When i arrived in Budapest, Hungarys capital located in the heart of Europe, I knew it was beautiful and had a lot of history.

I think there’s something for everyone to do in Budapest. Here’s 6 reasons why you should travel to Budapest, Hungary!

  1. It’s very cheap in Budapest,  1€ = 319 HUF. Let me put that in an example for you:  If you want to grab a beer in a restaurant it’s 500-600HUF = 1.6-1.9€. 15 min taxi ride will cost you somewhere around 2000-3000 HUF = 6-9€ depending on taxi company and driver. Make sure you get fixed price!
  2. Budapest is probably the most preserved city in Europe after WWII and has many tourist attractions to visit.
  3. The night life is incredible! There’s pubs and clubs in every corner of Budapest. In all different categories. Gay clubs, RnB clubs, EDM clubs, Rock n Roll clubs just for some example. Check this club out i visited Akvárium Club.
  4. Budapest has most thermal baths and Spa among all of the worlds capitals. I love the kind of relaxation you get on a thermal bath or a spa. That’s why i visited this one Széchenyi thermal bath.
  5. Like everything else, Accommodation is very cheap. I was living right next to Szabadság Square. Almost as near the city centre as possible. I booked trough AirBnB and payed for 2 persons 163€ for 3 nights. The apartment could fit 4 persons or even more!
  6. If you love travel and this isn’t your only stop on your journey like myself, There’s buses that can take you where ever (almost). I booked a bus to Bratislava, Slovakia. It will take 2.30hrs and costed me 7€.

So, now om I’m off to Bratislava, Slovakia!
